Meet Romin

No, it is not Roman Craig, the smarmy Uncle from The Great Outdoors, which is a great movie and one of the best roles Dan Aykroyd has ever played.

It is actually Specialized new saddle for 2010, the Romin. I have used a variety of saddles over the past few years; some winners and some losers. This one is a big winner, and today became my saddle of choice for road this season. In the past 2 years I have used a variety of saddles including(in no particular order); Fizik Arione, Fizik Aliante, Fizik Antares, Bontrager RL Inform, Selle San Marco Concor Light, Selle San Marco Regal, and now I have moved on to the Romin.

Specialized Body Geometry(BG) saddles are designed with pressure mapping and blood flow tests to make sure they are maintaining a minimum amount of normal blood flow. Click Here for a link telling you about their BG saddles.

The Romin and SL version are designed for the rider that spends time in the drops on a road bike, and wants to be comfortable while doing so. The channel/cutout is extended to the tip of the saddle for better hip rotation as well as an overall better fit on a bike.

First impressions of this saddle were mixed. One quick look and you want to say it is 'too thin' or 'too hard,' but ultimately it is comfortable when you sit on it with a pair of bike shorts. So with that, I went into Sunday's ride with an open mind. Literally, 5 minutes into the ride I was hooked. The saddle just felt good from the word 'GO'. Once I put some power to the pedals, and motored down the road the saddle felt great. I ended up doing about 40 miles on it with a lot of climbing and some flats on my way out to Fort Calhoun and back. I had no numb feelings over the course of my entire ride, which is not something I can say about any saddle I have ever ridden. It truly is a revolutionary saddle that can certainly make any bike ride more enjoyable. This will be gracing all my bikes soon, it really is a wonderful saddle that is the best I have ever ridden.

Don't just take my word for it. Here is Frank Schleck telling you about it.

The Romin is new for 2010 and it is making a big splash. Here are some of the features:
  • Patented BG Design is lab tested to assure blood flow to sensitive arteries
  • "Medium" rated ultra-light padding for longer rides
  • "Medium" rated carbon-reinforced shell for all-day racing and durability
  • Tough, light and water-resistant Micromatrix cover
  • Length: 270mm

The Saddle comes in 2 versions:

  • The Romin SL which has Durable, lightweight solid titanium rails $150
    OR
  • The Romin which has Lightweight hollow chromoly rails $110
We have both the Romin and Romin SL at The Bike Way. We also have the new version of the assometer and we can get your measured up for the saddle and get you out on the road in style. Come on in and take a look.

Sorry Tim S.

Lake Manawa ride Canceled

Again some wishful thinking about being able to ride.  As long as we don't get anymore snow or rain for a while we should be able to hit Platte next week.

Tranquility Ride Cancelled

Had some wishful thinking planning a ride at Tranquility today.  Needless to say, the trails are WAAAY to wet to even begin to think of riding.  Please stay off wet trails and we will hope for warmer weather for next week.

Omaha Sprints was a Success

Thanks to everyone that showed up and who participated in the Omaha Sprints on Saturday.  We had way more of a turnout than we ever expected for our first run at it.  30 people competed and we had close to 50 people in total in the shop.

As a shop we learned a lot and how to do this even better next time.

Check out some of the photos on our Facebook page and look for some videos to surface in the near future.

Here's a quick rundown of the top finishers:

1) Brad Z.
2) Clint R.
3) Matt S.
4) Shane S.
5) Nate H.
6) Glenn H.
7) Matt N.
8) Gene R.

Highest Watts seen for the night: Brad Z. with 1054
Highest cadence seen for the night: Joe S. with 190

Thanks again to all and hope to see ya at the next one.
